Community foundations are tax-exempt public charity created by and for the people in a local area. More than 700 community foundations exist across the United States, benefiting small towns, rural and urban areas and entire states. Some are nearly a century old and some were organized as recently as this decade; but all have one thing in common—they offer their citizens the ability to increase the impact of their philanthropy and enhance the future of their community.
