Utah is missing a crucial tool to strengthen our state now—and for the future.
Utah has been missing out on what all other states have found to be central to strengthening their communities: a vibrant community foundation.
A community foundation is a tax-exempt public charity created by and for the people in a local area. More than 700 community foundations exist across the United States, benefiting small towns, rural and urban areas and entire states. Some are nearly a century old and some were organized as recently as this decade; but all have one thing in common—they offer their citizens the ability to increase the impact of their philanthropy and enhance the future of their community.
We believe it is time for Utah to establish a Community Foundation–one that builds on Utah’s unique strength as a center of innovation and entrepreneurship. Our vision is to be a driving force in improving Utah’s future. Our mission is to harness Utah’s entrepreneurial spirit in service to the common good through smart philanthropy. We will achieve this through traditional methods employed by community foundations nationwide and by facilitating innovative approaches to social problems within our state.
Innovations, engagement, leverage—this is where we hope to offer something new and compelling.
